Rollerblades Are Now Eco-Friendly and Much Less Dorky

We know we were just talking about rollerblades being such a throwback, but our dorky secret wish has come true: Rollerblades could be making a comeback. An eco-friendly comeback, to be exact. K2 Skates has created a pair of “Eco” rollerblades. Its soft boot, laces, and webbing are made from recycled plastic bottles; the frame is made of bamboo. While K2 admits that the skate isn’t entirely green, there isn’t any PVC in them, which is a huge plus. We know the truly green thing to do would be to make our own rollerskates rather than buy a brand new pair, but still, doesn’t the bamboo look purty?

Should a Walmart Worker Be Fired for Smoking Medical Marijuana?

photo: Thinkstock

Getting laid off for drug use might seem pretty understandable, but a man in Michigan was fired from his job at Walmart for using medical marijuana to relieve pain from an inoperable brain tumor and sinus cancer. He had to submit to a mandatory drug test after an on-the-job injury, and tested positive. After he took legal action, Walmart said it was sympathetic, but didn’t back down.

Do you think Walmart has the right to fire someone because they smoke medical marijuana? Our gut tells us no, but what if the pot causes poor job performance?

Vuvuzelas for BP: Annoy BP as Much as They Annoy You

image via Vuvuzelas for BP's Kickstarter page

What’s the most annoying company in the news today? BP. What’s the most annoying noise in the world? A vuvuzela. It’s seems like a perfect match to us. A new project on Kickstarter (a site to raise money for small businesses and nonprofits) is asking for $2,000 in donations to hire 100 vuvuzela players to play for an entire day outside of BP’s London headquarters. Called Vuvuzelas for BP, they’ll be hiring the players off of Craigslist, mailing them the vuvuzelas, and donating the remaining $1,000 to relief efforts in the Gulf.

We like the (incredibly irritating) sound of this, as long as they recycle or repurpose the vuvuzelas after the event. Can we make a donation with some stipulations?
